HUSBAND, CAPTAIN, CYCLIST, LOVER OF THE OUTDOORS AND WINTER SPORTS.

Wilmington Boat Management
I hold my father fully responsible for the love and respect that I have for the water. Aged ten, a tatty Cornish-built 27ft sail boat arrived on a trailer towed by a Land Rover. That summer we spend two weeks as a family learning to sail dinghies on a lake in France. Aged 13 I was sailing myself around the sheltered harbour of Falmouth in Cornwall.

Summer weekends and holidays changed for ever and we spent time as a family learning some interesting lessons afloat on the cold waters around the UK.

Aged 18, I travelled to Australia and was incredibly privileged to complete my Captain’s training sailing around Sydney Harbour and the east coast of Australia. I returned to the UK to sit my exams and be awarded my 200gt Captains Licence.

After studying Business at Swansea University I followed the crowd to London and role in sales. To satisfy my cravings for the water I spent all of my summer weekends and holidays afloat. I skippered and raced in regattas with friends on a selection of 30-50ft racing yachts.

In between jobs I would work for a yacht delivery company as a skipper moving people’s sail and motor boats typically between the Mediterranean and the UK.

Consequently, when I accepted that a working life sat behind a desk wasn’t for me a chance meeting with Captain of a 150ft motor yacht occurred.

I was naturally interested even before the end of the first beer and I started as Bosun aboard my first private yacht less than a month later. Here I further developed my management, maintenance and boat handling skills. All of which had to be performed to the highest standards.

As the boats grew in size as did the responsibilities and the opportunity to travel. In October 2015 I was flown out to Seattle WA to act as Second Officer on a 237ft Delta new build project. This was a fantastic opportunity to be part of the team responsible for the final build stages and the full setup of a large yacht.

Responsibilities included maintaining the small fleet of tenders. ( 1 x Chris Craft 27′ Launch, 2 x Boston Whaler 230 Outrages, a 23′ & 27′ Novurania and 2 x Yamaha Waverunners.

Working on a handful of the world’s most prestigious yachts gave me an incredible eye for detail (border line OCD) and the ability to organize, maintain and coordinate anything that floats to the highest standards.

In Spring 2016 I met my now wife in Portland OR and we relocated to Wilmington NC with our English Cream Retriever Lily and Miniature Dachsund Rolo shortly after.

In Wilmington my dreams of working in the Marine Industry, having my own business and most importantly a family have come true. Boat Management is my way of putting into practice all of the skills I have developed in my twenty five years of boating.
